Electric vehicles are an environmentally friendly transportation solution and reduce emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. Thanks to advances in battery and electric motor technology, the manufacture of electric cars, trucks, bicycles and commercial vehicles is increasing worldwide.

Electric motors are older than gasoline or diesel engines. while a gasoline combustion engine can have an efficiency of 28% and a diesel engine 40%, the electric motor has an efficiency of 90%. AC motors are widely used in electric vehicles due to their efficiency and flexibility. They can operate at speeds of 10000 revolutions per minute, even 20000 rpm or more.

For the certification of automotive electric motors, many different types of tests must be performed, such as resistance, temperature, speed, power, torque, vibration and noise, insulation resistance and a long etcetera. For this purpose, we at Santa FE ECS have seen a growing interest in our gear calculation and design capabilities to design high speed gearboxes for the testing of electric motors for vehicles.
